Project:

The Montenegro Residences
BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group)

(page 22 issue 12)

Located on a steep incline between Budva and Svedi Stefan, along the stunning Montenegro coastline, this prime residential real estate measures a staggering 8,000 square metres and presents a challenging commission for the Copenhagen-based practice of Bjarke Ingels, BIG.

The design objective, to be realized by 2010, is to provide a luxurious setting that maximizes the scenic view’s potential yet discreetly blends into the surrounding landscape. BIG have created a 3.7 metre incision into the mountain and followed its natural contours, thus creating a terraced landscape of housing.

Having achieved this feat, all properties will be pointing in the same direction with abundant natural daylight. Most will be assured of outdoor terrace space and a panoramic outlook of the picaresque bay. 60 residences are planned although all will be sized differently and designed individually. The majority will be built on a single level although several will be split level; an intricate footpath system has been devised to guarantee privacy. Local stone and materials will also be employed to create a harmony between the building and the surrounding landscape.

Roll on 2010!
